ABOUT

Stories, essays, and reflections

on faith, history, and the quiet things that matter.

HELLO

I'm Joel Martin-Cox, a writer and editor living in Southern California.

My work spans fiction, narrative nonfiction, and journalism. I'm drawn to quiet moments in history, to the overlooked and the ordinary, to places where the past lingers and stories wait to be told.

I was raised in Livermore, CA, and earned a BA in English Writing from Loyola University New Orleans. Before turning to full-time writing, I worked as an editor at a small woodworking magazine, a freelance reporter for the Ravalli Republic in Montana, a high school English teacher, an actor, and an veterinary assistant in a small animal ER.

Those experiences taught me about compassion, the need to truly listen, and the fragile boundary between life and loss. Those lessons find their way into much of what I write.

When I'm not writing, you'll likely find me fly fishing, reading, or around the table with friends and family.
